The annual ARTEK workshop for young string players to work with internationally-renowned Italian baroque violinist Enrico Gatti will take place in February, 2027. The repertoire includes trios, quartets, and quintets of Luigi Boccherini. The Fellows will also accompany three Boccherini arias for the Vocal Artist Fellows.
The approximate schedule (subject to change) is Tuesday, 10:30 am-4:30 pm; Wednesday, 10:30 am-4:30 pm; Thursday, 10:30 am-4:30 pm; Friday, 3 pm – 5:45 pm and 8 pm concert; Saturday, 5:30 pm warmup and 7 pm concert.  Up to six artists (violin, viola, cello, and guitar) may be selected; each artist will receive an honorarium of $500 and travel assistance up to $300 (as documented by expense receipts). We are sorry, but we cannot provide any assistance with visas for foreign students; therefore, since this is a paid opportunity, a current work visa is required. Applications are due by November 30, and consist of a cover letter, resume, and links to 2 live performance videos of baroque-era music. Those accepted will be notified by December 15. Please submit your application through Google Forms: Radical Rococo Application 2026.

2027 Vocal Fellows

Radical Rococo: Boccherini & High Baroque Ornamentation

February, 2027
Location: Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church
264 West 87th Street, New York City
ARTEK’s annual workshop for young singers returns this February, led by ARTEK soprano Christina Kay, a singer with an extraordinary ability for vocal improvisation and ornamentation. If you want to develop your skills in vocal ornamentation, this workshop is for you. Three soprano fellows will be selected to work with Ms. Kay. Each fellow will prepare an aria from Boccherini’s Stabat Mater, along with one or two additional Baroque arias of their choice.

The Boccherini arias will be performed in public concerts on February 26 at 8 PM and February 27 at 7 PM. Fellows will rehearse with the instrumental ensemble in two daytime rehearsals between February 23 and 25, with a mandatory dress rehearsal at 3 PM on February 26. Fellows will receive feedback on their work with the ensemble.

Fellows will also perform an aria of their choice in a daytime public masterclass on Thursday, February 25. Each fellow will receive two individual coachings with Ms. Kay before February 23, scheduled at mutually convenient times.

Each fellow will receive a $500 honorarium. Fellows must be authorized to work in the United States; ARTEK cannot provide visa assistance. Applicants should be based in or within traveling distance of New York City and able to attend all coachings, rehearsals, the masterclass, and performances at their own travel expense.

The application process will be announced on YAP Tracker in late October; contact Director Gwendolyn Toth at artekearlymusic(at)gmail.com for more information in advance.
