ARTEK performs the complete Madrigals, Book 7 of Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) in this 2-CD set. These madrigals, published in 1619, mark a turning point in the composer’s output: all of the madrigals are in the new, concerted style with basso continuo accompaniment: solos, duets and trios with a few larger pieces combining voices and instruments, culminating in an operatic scena and final Ballo. Featuring singers Laura Heimes & Clara Rottsolk, sopranos; Barbara Hollinshead, mezzo-soprano; Ryland Angel, countertenor/tenor; Philip Anderson, Andrew Fuchs and Jacob Perry Jr., tenors; and Peter Becker, bass-baritone.
